My first month of blogging was definitely a steep learning curve. I launched my blog in mid-September 2018. Before I started my blog, I didn’t have any experience with blogging and my social media skill was very limited, still is. Starting a blog is a hard work but definitely worth it. One of the catalyst for me starting a blog is from reading others’ monthly blogging reports.  I have been reading monthly blogging reports and wondering if I can achieve that as well. I told myself to give it a try and here I am, a month into the blogging world. Although I haven’t reached anything marvelous on my first month of blogging, I feel proud of myself that I started a blog. It provides me a channel for my creative outlet.  I also feel that my personal growth develop faster this past month. If you are considering to start a blog, you can read my others posts about the benefits of blogging and how to start a blog in 2018. I also track my progress and lessons learned on the first three weeks of blogging here: first week, second week, and third week.

The purpose of this monthly blogging income report is to track my progress and to show and encourage other newbies what the first couple of months of blogging looks and feels like. Everyone needs to start small, and that’s the case with blogging as well. It’s okay if your traffic is not as high as you expected. By being aware where you are right now as checkpoints, you know what your weakness and learn how to improve it. No matter how small is your progress, I know something for sure that we as bloggers learned a lot.

I divided my progress of the month into 6 categories as follow:

  1. Number of followers
  2. Traffic
  3. Number of posts in the month
  4. Blog Income
  5. Blog Expense
  6. Blog Net Profit

Here is my progress in getting followers and subscribers:

  1. Pinterest Followers     : 0 -> 100    (I can’t exactly remember how many that day, but probably close to this numbers)
  2. Instagram Followers   : 0 -> 10      (Again, didn’t really remember the exact number)
  3. Facebook Followers    : 0 -> 0
  4. Twitter Followers         : 0 -> 5
  5. E-mail subscribers       : 0 -> 2

At first, I didn’t expect someone to come to my blog other than myself. I’m pretty happy that I reached 530 pageviews with 115 total users on the first 30 days I launched this blog. I regretted that I didn’t install the Google Analytics plugging until the third week of blogging. I learned and I moved on.

Pinterest had been major traffic to my blog along the organic search. This is my Pinterest statistic of the first 30 days of launching the blog. I started a new Pinterest account for the sake of my new blog.  I’m happy that I have 53 average monthly viewers, but hoping next month I can reach 500 monthly viewers.

Total posts that I wrote for the first 30 days of my blog = 13 posts.

Here are the posts that I published in the first month of blogging:

  1. How to Create an Emergency Pocket Card
  2. Tutorial on How to Make an Emergency Pocket Card
  3. How to Create a Happy Ambiance for Your Workspace
  4. How to cut grocery time to into 10 minutes
  5. List of online ordering grocery services
  6. Things I Have Done and Learned in the First Week of Blogging
  7. Things I Have Done and Learned in the Second Week of Blogging
  8. Things I Have Done and Learned in the Third Week of Blogging
  9. Complete Guide on How to Start a Blog in 2018
  10. 7 Benefits of Blogging that You Wish You Started Sooner
  11. How to organize paperwork using binder
  12. How to create a strong password
  13. 2018 Halloween Costume Ideas for Your Babies

I need to increase the number of posts each month. My goal is to have total 50 posts by the end of this year.

SEPTEMBER 2018 Blog Income: $0

Although I didn’t earn any blog income this month, I’m optimistic that I will earn something next month.

Bluehost $107.28 (3 years hosting + Free Domain)

You can definitely lower this cost by signing up for a year hosting and still get a free domain if you sign up through this link. I definitely recommend BlueHost. It’s cheap and easy to set up.

Setting up PO BOX address: $82.00

I don’t want to use my residential address when I signed up for affiliate programs. I recommend this if you want to treat your blog as a business. I wrote a long +3000 words post on how to start a blog and treat like a business.

Business Name Registration: $30

Same like the one above. I want to register my business name so no one else can use it.

Blogging Courses through Groupon: $9.00

Blogging E-book through Kindle Unlimited: $9.99

SEPTEMBER 2018 Blog Expense: (-$ 238.27)

SEPTEMBER 2018 Blog Net Profit: (-$ 238.27 )

Definitely, the first month of blogging I learned quite a bit and it won’t stop. Blogging wold keeps changing. In order to keep up-to-date, I need to keep learning. Here are my lessons learned of the first month of blogging:

  • Launched too fast. I gave myself 2-3 weeks before launching my blog. Had I waited for 2 months, my blog probably will be more ready with a good amount of content.
  • Tried to do it all. I juggled all together: writing posts, marketing, social media, and learning process. During my first month of blogging, I want to do it all, but I suffered. By not focusing on one aspect at a time, I’m not optimizing the aspect. I read one of Sarah Titus’ post that gives an advice to take one step at a time. Don’t focus on all things at one time. It really helps me. I used to do writing a blog, then making pin picture, then pin on Pinterest, and try to get an Instagram follower and Pinterest follower while doing the Facebook group. That’s a lot of work. And my writing suffers, and I didn’t get many followers either. The truth is I didn’t do well on everything since I multitask a lot, jumping from one aspect of the blog to the other. Being a new blogger, I want to catch up with other blogger but I cannot do that. I should not compare with other bloggers.  and not mention sustainable. I need to take my pace and focus to build the foundation.
  • Didn’t sign up and install google analytics on the first-day launching.
  • Tried to be active on more than one social media platform.  Pinterest brought the major traffic to my blog. I need to focus on this platform first, before venturing out to other social media platforms.
  • Didn’t sign up for Google AdSense within the first week of launching the blog. I didn’t set up right on the first time which makes the sign-up process longer. As soon as I figured that out, I was accepted for the program.

Now, I want to focus on writing on the blog and the blog itself. Producing great content for the reader rather focusing on marketing. So, here are my goals for the next 30 days:

  1. Total post = 30; Action Plan: write a post every day.
  2. Page view = 1000; Action Plans:
    1. Optimize SEO
    2. Share to Pinterest every time publishing a post
    3. Proofread all old post and re-organize the structure
    4. Ask for each post= will this article benefit other people. If not, add more information to benefit people
    5. Organize website layout to be more user-friendly
  3. Extra income = $100; Action Plan: Place more ads throughout the page.
  4. Try Tailwind to automate repinning on Pinterest and save time.

September 2018 is definitely a good month. Although I haven’t reached my first income yet, I expected this. The first month of blogging is the time for me to learn about various aspects of blogging: writing, marketing, social media, traffic, SEO, and so on. I didn’t even know what google analytics for before this. My first month of blogging is definitely a roller coaster. Started a blog is hard work. There were many sleepless nights along the way, but it will be worth it.

I hope my first month of blogging report will help you or encourage you. Share me a comment, how did you do in your first month of blogging. Would love to hear from you! See you next month!
